Ireland here we come!

All is calm on the Promenade Deck as OCEANA approached the Mayflower Terminal - Berth 106 after a wonderful cruise to Norway - next stop Ireland!

Hello Everyone,

Greetings once again from the Oceanans!

On 28 August we were once again in our home port of Southampton. It was a beautiful sunny day and after the arrival formalities and seeing to Ship's business, Captain Hamish Reid and I walked into town to enjoy a coffee on the top floor of John Lewis and do a bit of shopping.

It was only for a couple of hours but a little land time does wonders!

When you go ashore in any port it is amazing who you can bump into! Even more so when VENTURA is in port at the same time......pictured here is Captain Hamish Reid and the future Mrs David Shepherd - the lovely Jade! David is Executive Purser on board VENTURA and Jade was ashore doing the shopping. Best wishes to David and Jade for their future life together - lovely Diamonds Jade!

Any excuse for a tune - getting ready for Passenger Drills - with Victor, Karen and Lucy in Tiffanys on Deck 7.

Local Southampton Pilot Barry Saddler on the Bridge with our Chief Engineer Jeff Talbot.

Barry used to work with us on board - I have sailed with Barry in the past - thank you Barry for Piloting us in and out of Southampton.

Captain Reid looking far too happy - soon he will be going home to his Estate in Scotland! We always have a good laugh with Hamish's sense of humour.

What a sight to behold -

VENTURA leaving the Ocean Terminal berth and passing QUEEN MARY 2.

OCEANA was starboard side to therefore she had to do a full turn before sailing out. Southampton is a very busy port not only for Cruise Ships but also for cargo and containers. I was just listening to a programme on the TV this evening - John Cravens Country File and they were discussing the importing of food with Southampton Port Health Officer - Sandra Westercott. I have met Sandra on board at various ship inspections. Regards to all at UK Port Health including Rosie Zambra.

VENTURA is on her way and QUEEN MARY 2 is about to turn.

OCEANA passengers enjoy their balconies as we sail on our way to Dublin, Ireland.

Loyalty Cruise Sales Manager Amy Breslin, with her Mum Lesley and Sister Samantha along with Loyalty Cruise Sales Manager Lucy Guy. After their first cruise on OCEANA they are hooked!

As OCEANA made her turn we got a great view of the 'old dry dock'. I see that gates have been removed - I have been in refit here on CANBERRA and OCEANA.

QUEEN MARY 2 is New York bound - what a great sight for all passengers with so many ships to see.

Southampton was getting ready for the annual Boat Show. In the background you can see the Grand Harbour Hotel - a local landmark.

Many of you will remember retired Cruise Director Ian Fraser pictured here with Jacqueline, and Mr and Mrs Hughie Taylor - Cruise Director and Deputy Cruise Director. It was great to sail with Ian and Jacquiline on board and they had a wonderful time.

OCEANA is on her way...........

There is a specific route out of Southampton that the ships have to follow. This area here is where the first sea plane flew from.........lots of well wishers out waving.

The next day I was on the Bridge as we passed Lands End and daft as it sounds I could feel the 'shiver in my spine' as we entered the Irish Sea - must have been the Leprechauns out swimming for the day.........wanting to get the first glimpse of the glamorous OCEANA.

After the Captain's Welcome Aboard Parties and Dinner I went to the Show in the Footlights Theatre and then it was straight to bed to be well rested for an early arrival in Dublin in the morning.......

Back soon with more news,

Bye for now,

James.

We have just enjoyed our first cruise and we are hooked! what a lovely holiday we have had on board Oceana, what a pity it was only for seven days! Now we are home we are looking at the brochure for next years cruise! We have experienced the highest level of customer service from all the staff, it was faultless. Well done P&O, James - although we did not meet on the ship I have enjoyed reading your blog before our holiday and after!

Hi James,

Well another great blog with great photo's, looking forward to the updates from Ireland one place i have never been,( i have sailed with plenty of your countrymen)

Well after 17 days we finally have an election result with Julia Gillard getting over the line with the help of the independants. SO Labor are in again.

The weather has changed for the worse today with rain and strong winds, still we had a dry winter so it is much needed.

Looking forward to more updates.

Regards to all on Oceana.

Hi

it was lovely to see the picture of Hughie Taylor and Ian Fraser, brings back happy memories of the Canberra for me.

I was lucky enough to be on Ians last cruise where the Ents team did a special "this is your life" for him.

I was also on the Oceania earlier this year where Hughie was the Cruise Director, he hasnt lost any of his charm or enthuaiasm for the job.
