Hello once again,
On Thursday 26 August 2010 OCEANA was in Bergen. It was a beautiful day to start with and then some rain showers in the afternoon...........I love to walk around Bergen - so much to see and do.
Affectionately known as the 'gateway to the Fjords', Bergen is an enchanting city with a great history and a truly spectacular setting. It was formerly the Capital and now Norway's second largest city with a population of 228,000. It is the leading west coast port and a major cultural centre.
Most passengers take the excursion to Mount Floien - this involves a funicular which takes you to the top at a height of around 984 feet. From this vantage point you can enjoy wonderful views of Bergen and the surrounding area. I have fond memories of visiting Grieg's home at Troldhaugen situated on the Nordas Lake. The composer's home contains many of the original furnishings. Grieg is buried in the Garden there. He enjoyed his lovely little cabin down on the lake where he used to escaped to when his wife was entertaining! With beautiful views from every window you can see how Grieg loved living here.
In old Bergen many passengers like to wonder round this attractive area at their leisure. There is even a Laura Ashley shop........!
Couldn't resist this old Post office display as my Father was a Postmaster, Grocer and General Merchant! If you look closely at the reflection on the glass you can see me taking the photograph!

All pre departure checks have been completed and OCEANA is about to sail for Southampton.
Family and Friends of the Headliners Theatre Company..............
What memories, what moments, what friendships to enjoy as another cruise comes to an end.
All pre departure checks have been completed and OCEANA is about to sail for Southampton.
OCEANA sets her course to leave Bergen and sail down the North Sea to her home port of Southampton. We were very blessed with our sea passages on this cruise - smooth sailing all the way!
This completes our Norway Cruise - I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and if you have never been then you need to book up now!! As with most of our Cruise Itineraries there is so much to see and do that you can always visit the same places time after time and enjoy your favourite past times.............
Bye for now, the next postings will feature Southampton Sail away, Dublin, Cork, Bilbao and Brest.
Plenty of variety in this job. Thank you for your messages and please keep them coming.....
Best wishes meantime,
James.

James,
We have been discussing where to go on holiday next and a cruise to Norway is up there amongst the favorites. Tony has seen the pictures and we both think Bergen looks fabulous.
So glad the latest cruise went well and the weather was kind.
See you back in Southampton.

Hi James
Beautiful once again, loved the fruit and vegie market, seafood is not my cup of tea, but as the saying goes "Throw another shrimp on the barbie". Have you eaten the West Australian King Prawns, they put those little shrimps to shame. We are blessed living here with all the selections of fine seafood that one can enjoy.
Off tonight for our sons engagement party, lucky that we have split the cost with his fiancee's parents otherwise gets quite expensive.I think there is around 90 or so people coming so should be a good night. Then tomorrow it is her 21st party with the theme being the letter "T".as her name is Tamara, so will have to get dressed up for that.It is either a feast or a famine with our social life.
Looking forward to more updates, see you are in Brest today enjoy the time there.
Regards to all on Oceana.

Hello to all the crew :-)x
Mr & Mrs King & Daddy
Hi James,
I have been catching up on your blog since I got home from a holiday in the UK - a change of plan from what was intended (Spain with family) but a relaxing time alone in the West Country.
Your reports from Norway have brought back good memories as my last cruise on Oceana was to Norway in 2008 for a short cruise over Bank Holiday week in August. I had a good time and met some lovely people amongst passengers and crew - in fact, this week I met up woth one of the passengers I met onboard and we had a good day in Truro catching up.
I am looking forward to being on Oceana in just 6 weeks time and I received my 'Holiday Information' book today with 6, yes 6, luggage labels - not sure how many bags they expect a girl to take with her for 9 nights travelling alone!!!
Am looking forward to being onboard next month - Arcadia from India to Southampton in March/April seems so long ago!!
Have a good time on the current cruise and keep up the good reports.

'M' and 'James' - just book Norway now - you will not regret it. One of my first Pursers JS used to say to me - 'James - just book it and then decide you want to cancel it - you never will!'
James.
Hi Geoff,
Happy 21st to Tamara!

Best wishes to all the clan,
James.
Hello Mr and Mrs King,

All the best to you and 'Daddy'...
Hope to see you again soon,
James.
Hi Hazel,
