John, I’m so sorry to hear that you were so unwell during your holiday cruise. What an awful thing to have happened on what should have been a happy occasion. I am delighted though, that the Medical Team on board Ventura were able to respond so quickly and that you found the support of our Customer Services Team so helpful. We’re very proud of our Medical Team and I’ll ensure your kind comments reach Julie and the Customer Services Team. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Thank you to Lionel, Karen and Tony and an anonymous poster for your feedback on The Portunus Club. It’s important and extremely useful to hear your thoughts on this subject. With decisions still to be made I’m unable to comment at this time on particular aspects of the club structure, but we hope that all our current members will see the evolution as a positive step. I look forward to sharing more details with you in the future.
To both Janets, Maureen and Amanda. I really appreciate you raising the issue of the spa information provided by the Concierge Service. Firstly I’d like to apologise for the confusion and inconvenience caused. We’re still looking into this issue and I will come back to you as soon as possible on this.
Mr & Mrs Smith, I received your letter this morning so will review it and get back to you on the subject shortly.
I have been spending a few days on one of our ships each month chatting with passengers and crew. I’m looking forward to spending a few days on Oceana later this month and Artemis in August, I’m also planning to join Oriana during her Autumn World Cruise for a few days. In December I will be spending a little longer on Aurora (on cruise R015) where, amongst other things, I’ll be presenting a talk and joining passengers on excursions. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to be part of the cruise in a more in-depth way than ever before. Hopefully many of you will join me.
I know there are a couple of questions I have yet to answer so I’ll endeavour to post one last blog before James returns in a few days’ time.
With kind regards
Carol

Hi Carol
Any idea if Portunus points are going to be earned if one travels on P&O Australia.
Thanks for keeping the blog going while James is on leave.

Re. the Portunus Club. I have had a lot of mailing problems and on a lot of occasions I have been informed that I have ticked the box to receive no further information from P & O - untrue. This year I was informed the problem was due to my husband being the main addressee and HE had asked to be deleted off the list which I know he hasn't done. Also, if this is correct why was the invite to the Azura Gold Day addressed to me? I do hope that this will be addressed when you review the Portunus Club.
Kind regards
Gill
Dear Carol
I know that you are looking at re-vamping the benefits of the Portunus Club. I have looked at the similar club of the Costa Cruises which I know is a sister company and I think you will agree that they are quite extensive.
Hope it is helpful.
Kind regards
David
Hello
I see there is a long running thread re the beds on Arcadia on the community forum - whether you can have a foam mattress topper, whether you have to order one in advance, etc.
3 things if I may:
1) Are the mattresses on Arcadia due for replacement as I have experienced a hard and uncomfortable mattress on a number of occasions on that ship?
2) Could we please be informed whether we are able to request foam mattress toppers via our travel agent, via P&O or on arrival on board Arcadia?
3) This is just another example of being told one thing by P&O reservations and another thing once on board - there really is a lack of communication on a number of topics and each blame the other for dealing with a matter and the passenger is in the middle getting a bit frustrated and with no solution to a query/problem.
thank you for reading this
Hello
I would like to reinforce the point made by Karen & Tony regarding the Portunus Club benefits, which you are unable to answer at this time because of ongoing discussions.
We too have booked a cruise next February which, as things currently stand, will bring us up to Gold Tier level. This was in fact one of the considerations when booking with P&O rather than an alternative company and we would be very disappointed to find the goal posts are to be moved so that we will not after all reach Gold Tier status.
I look forward to your comments.
Kate
Hi Carol
Thanks for looking into the thermal suite prices that Concierge Service are giving passengers and I look forward to your reply. My apologies though, as in my post of the 6th July I meant to say the prices onboard were twice those given to me by Concierge Service, not the other way round.
Thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions and taking onboard passenger ideas on the Portunus club which does need a re-vamp, looking forward to see what happens.

Hi Carol,
I would like to send you a personal letter and wish to know where to send it to ensure that it does not get picked up by someone else which has happened in the past and we received a reply from carnival Australia, and a reply that did not answer my concerns. We actually met you on board Aurora earlier this year when we were travelling from Brisbane to the UK on the Grand Voyage, we had a very speedy trip from Bris. to Sydney and arrived in Sydney around 12 mn, a few hours earlier than expected. Was a wonderful Grand Voyage, we stayed on for two more weeks for the Atlantic Cruise which was very dissapointing and we would like to write and post via snail mail to fill you in and let you know why we have cancelled our Grand Voyage on Aurora next year.Aurora was our second Grand Voyage, we did Brisbane to the UK on Arcadia in 2009.Very sad that we have had to change to another company but are doing a great world voyage in 2011.
Thankyou,
Cheers Abi
Hello Carol
Portunus points should only be awarded for travel with P&O cruises and not with respect, other Carnival Group ships. This is supposed to be a loyalty club for those who love the P&O experience and thereby are rewarded for their ‘loyalty’. Please raise the bar and provide a new tier, gold lunches are becoming a classy cattle market. Smile.

Hello Carol, after reading all the coments re. Portunus changes, i wish someone would tell us what is happening,i agree with a lot thats been said. I have sent you two letters personaly, and both letters have been answered by someone else, i do realise you are a very busy person, but when passengers have a complaint, that is only answered with a lot of sorry sorry sorry, and not a thing has been done to put it right, it,s very frustrating
Carol..
thank you so such for your frank and honest answers... not to mention taking the time to read and reply to the various issues raised... It makes for very intresting reading. I do wish the lovely Portunus Magazine held more topics related to cruising than celebrity interviews and travel pages. More of the information re how do you plan the routes.. topics just covering the issues you see here would make for far better reading. Behind the sceens on board etc etc.. I am sure many of your regular readers and cruisers could also submit there accounts of recent cruises in return for a ' prize' ie OBC on their next cruise for getting an artical published ?
So many people write on these cruise web site you wont be short of entries.
Thank you once again for listening.

C&J... with regards to the comments about it becoming a cattle market. How rude.. the rest of us have worked long and hard to save for cruises... when we do reach Gold we are then met with rude members at the Gold lunch who feel there should be a Gold TOP TABLE club for those better than the rest of us..
How can it matter how many people achive Gold... we are all loyal .We would cruise more often if only we won the lottery or didnt work full time. Our place as gold is hard earned. Like the widows mite...
We too have a place at the Gold Lunch...
I would hate to see the bar raised just to satisfy a few wealthy cruisers ...
Just be pleased you are able to cruise more often than the rest of us...
