A few more replies to your comments

Sheila and Terry, thank you for your comments regarding early booking. We are really keen to reward our early bookers with the best offers and, of course, there’s also the peace of mind that comes with being able to secure the cabin of your choice on the cruise of your choice, and being able to select your preferred dining arrangements.

Booking late does involve the risk that the cruise you had particularly wanted to travel on will be fully booked, or will only have grades/ locations of cabin and dining arrangements left that weren’t exactly what you would had hoped for, but that said, I do understand why the situation you found yourselves in would have caused you disappointment – and it certainly isn’t a position that we want our customers to find themselves in. While a variety of deals may be available throughout the period of time before the cruise sails, we do try to ensure that, although packaged differently to appeal to different customers, the deals available aren’t more advantageous than those offered as part of our early booking scheme. Like all businesses, over the last year or so we have found ourselves in economically challenging times and, as a result, there have been some occasions where we, or our travel agent partners, have offered even more competitive deals than the early offers to ensure that the ships sail full. We trust that as the economic climate improves, we can eliminate the need for these promotions altogether and continue to reward those who book early.

Of course, if you’re happy to be flexible with your date of travel and cabin, then we have some great new earlier booking options that might appeal. Flexicruise is available on Ventura and Azura’s pre and post Christmas Caribbean fly-cruises. You pay a set, reduced amount for your preferred stateroom type and we’ll allocate you a cruise and cabin subsequent to booking, but in good time for your departure.

Gill, I agree it does make the dining experience all the more pleasant when passengers dine together, and it is certainly our intention that this would happen. On Arcadia we do make the announcements over the tannoy to confirm sittings, as well as publishing times in the Horizon paper. There are occasions where we would change the second sitting dining time from 8:30pm to 8:45pm to allow passengers to make their way to the restaurant after the Captain’s welcome on board party for example, as well to allow time for the Chef’s farewell dinner parade to take place at both first and second sitting. With regard to the Syndicate Quiz, we received feedback from customers that the start time of 11:00pm was too late, so on Arcadia we moved it forward to 10:30 as a trial, but others felt it too early, so it’s now at 10:45pm. Hopefully the new time will be well received by all who wish to attend the quiz on Arcadia.

Elaine, I’m delighted to hear you and your daughter had such a lovely time at Azura’s naming ceremony, it really was a magical evening and Darcey was wonderful as Godmother! You’re absolutely right, Azura was designed to be a classic ship, much like Aurora and Oriana in her atmosphere and feel, and it seems that even those who have always favoured these ships (as you have done with Aurora) have been tempted by Azura. Of course all of our ships are united by the same P&O Cruises feel that makes travelling on different members of the fleet seem a familiar experience – it’s their décor, facilities and size that makes each a little different.

You mentioned the Portunus Club and we are indeed currently working on reviewing and evolving the club’s structure, following member feedback. We will, of course, seek the thoughts and opinions of some of our passengers on the proposed changes, which will help to shape the future of The Portunus Club. I look forward to sharing the news with you and your fellow Portunus Club members further down the line.

We are sailing on Arcadia in September for the 3rd time, this time to USA and Canada, we will be celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary. We have really enjoyed the hydro-therapy pool and spa on previous cruises and was wondering how much it would be to book this for the duration of our cruise (23 nights). If you could give us an idea of the cost we would be very grateful. I really enjoy reading the blog, I check it regularly, it makes me feel I'm almost there!

Do you ever get to see the Cruise DVD's that the ships photography Dept create. The quality is ramdom some are excellent some are quite frankly rubbish...
This year we went to St Petersburg on Arcadia in May and sadly this edition of the DVD was very poor.In fact it looked like an amater had taken it ...
The only good ones I lend to friends and collegues who fancy the idear of a cruise holiday. BUT why oh why isnt there a standard quality ? Some feature lots of shots on board this years one didnt. I know they use libuary shots of ports but why did they use a rainy day shot of a port we visited when the day we were there was glorious and sunny. Why dont they re take the libary shots when the weather in that port is better?
These DVD's make a great marketing tool as they get passed around. So why do you let them produce such poor products.? Which are so disapointing .. Maybe you should request some at ramdom to see if YOU think they offer value for money and a good representive view of a cruise..

Hi Maureen I am glad you asked that question and would be interested in Carols reply. I enquired through the Concierge Service two weeks prior to our 2 week June cruise on Arcadia about the prices for the Hydropool, hot bed area etc. I was emailed the following:
Platinum Pass: £60 per person or £100 per couple.
Full cruise pass for thermal suite, use anytime. Includes complimentary Rasul couples treatment,

Gold Pass: £60 per person, or £90 per couple.
Full cruise pass for thermal suite, includes foot and ankle massage for two.

Silver Pass: £40 per person.
5 day pass for the Thermal Suite only , between 8am-8pm, 2 glasses of Champagne.

When I boarded the price was £75 per person on embarkation day and £100 per person thereafter nowhere near the prices quoted to me. No mention of any type of Gold pass etc and was told that there was no deviation from this. The rasul treatment was not mentioned at all in the Spa brochure on board.

I think this is exceptionally bad bearing in mind the Concierge Service contacted me pre-cruise to ask if they could be of assistance. I decided to vote with my feet and not book the hydropool. A query back to Concierge service has still not been satisfactorily answered.

So I wonder whether Carol can shed some light on this, as I am going back on Arcadia in November for a 23 night cruise.
thanks

Thanks Carol for replying to my comment on the portunus club. Personally I'm not sure what more I personally could ask for from the portunus club. The best bit for us is the 10% discount as we spend quite a bit onboard. I guess there are those that don't spend much onboard and not fussed about this extra. I'm a bit funny about my laundry and prefer to do my own (unfortunately I have to use the facilities provided whilst away because OH goes to the gym on a daily basis), so free laundry would not be of any benefit. When we've tried to send clothes for dry cleaning it has usually been sent back as it's not proper dry cleaning, but the aquatex system. So again we wouldn't use this facility much either. Free internet might work, but to be honest I spend far too much time online at home I really should keep away when on holiday. So I really don't envy your portunus department with the task ahead of them. Whatever they do they will be damned if they do and damned if they don't - what works for one passenger will not work for another. It always amazes me when I look at the forum at the amount of people who complain about the portunus benefits as they are. It wasn't like the old POSH club days! My, my what small memories they have. You had to pay to join the club and the perks weren't that fantastic IMO. I'm always grateful for what I do get - I have a box full or portunus gifts in my wardrobe. I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth! It's a shame other passengers don't see it like me.

Thanks once again for listening to us on here.

Thank you for your comments regarding the dining times. Yes they do make announcements and it is in the paper every day, but you would be surprised at how many people do not read the Horizon. I still think it is extremely rude for people to turn up every night about 8.55 p.m. - 9.00 p.m. I appreciate the Syndicate Quiz time has been moved; this will help greatly. You state that it is more pleasant to be able to dine together. Unfortunately the waiters do not like to upset anybody and even though ordering prior to the others arriving received our courses at exactly the same time as them. If they don't want to eat at 8.30 they can go the the Belvedere/Arcadian Rhodes/Orchid.

Re Med cruise 26/6 - 10/7 Seems no mention of the Oceana's propulsion problems resulting in another near 1 1/2 days in Cartagena, the loss of two Ports of Call, Barcelona and Cadiz and a rather weary second week which was pretty much just a long slow trip back to Southampton? Wish I had seen cruise through your eyes!!
Sorry but didn't really enjoy it and being double charged for a Spa treatment was final straw.

I am happy to say that is working fine now - as for the SPA charge - please contact Jackie Bridle - Passenger Relations Executive for OCEANA at Carnival House.
