Claire Sweeney and I

After the consecutive days in port and a wonderful day in Venice it is now the morning of another day at sea. One of the Entertainment Officers will shortly be hosting the ice carving demonstration, the deck sports are all up and running and the Azura Vocalists group is busy in the Planet Bar. Tonight, the passengers look forward to their black and white formal evening and some more great shows.

On the subject of cruise entertainment, in addition to our brilliant ‘Headliners’ Theatre Company we have had a group of theatre entertainers called ‘Westenders’ who have performed twice this cruise. They are a fantastic vocal group with over 40 West End credits to their name and some are from previous casts of Les Miserables..........

This Afternoon I will be hosting an informal chat show with Captain Keith Dowds; this will take place up on deck and be shown ‘Live’ on our Seascreen.

While we are on the subject of Seascreen tonight we will be hosting our James Bond-themed evening which consists of the entire area being dressed with props, a pre-film Bond Quiz and then finally a showing of Casino Royale.

We have had some challenges with regard to flights getting some cabaret artistes to us but thankfully (with a little re-scheduling) we have had great entertainment every night. The brilliant Brian Conley joined us just yesterday.

Okay, now for the story of the week. TV personality Claire Sweeney is with us this cruise performing her wonderful show in the theatre. I have known Claire for about 20 years and a few years ago we were in a show together. After Claire’s first show she said ‘I have a great idea, why don’t you come on and dance with me during one of my songs in the next show’ At the time I was reluctant as we had not rehearsed anything, but Claire insisted it was a great idea!!!! Quote: “We can just make it up as we go along.”

Anyway it is all going very well during this Samba/Salsa until Claire spins into my arm and we accidentally headbutt each other. At the time (although the audience did not notice) we just laughed and carried on.

The short story is: the next day Claire has a huge black eye and it seems to be getting blacker by the hour.

Claire is telling all the passengers that the Cruise Director gave her a Black Eye.

Claire has been brilliant about the whole thing and thinks it is very funny. She still looks beautiful!!

The moral of the story: ALWAYS REHEARSE

Tomorrow will be another sea day before our call into Gibraltar where we all look forward to our traditional ‘Great British Sail away’ party.

Bye for now,

Neil

I remeber one year you were the judge for the twist!!!Anne & I won a bottle of champagne.!!!Those were the days.I dont think I could do it now.Im so pleased that you managed to get your artistes on board at this very difficult time.
Keep up the good work.

It is unfortunate that Miss Sweeney on Celebrity Dine With Me said cruises were full of 80 year olds. Hope she was joking.
