Yorkey's Knob for Cairns, North Queensland.

Morning Coffee view - Yorkie's Knob in sight.

Good Day Everyone,

Yorkie’s Knob is the landing stage for Cairns, and is the gateway to north Queensland. Few places on earth can boast such unique natural attractions, with the Great Barrier Reef offering an underwater treasure trove of dazzling coral and sea life, and a superb World Heritage listed tropical rain forest within easy reach.
After the Ship’s Company photograph and BBQ I dashed ashore at 1430 hours and hopped into a taxi and went straight into Cairns for a wander and then a taxi ride back to the Yacht Club for light refreshment before sailing back to Arcadia - it is just amazing how much you can do in afternoon.............

The Entertainments Department gathering for the Ship's Company Photograph on the aft deck of Arcadia.

The Glamour of cruising...............

The Restaurant Teams get into position.................

The Deck Pool Staff Team get ready to reset the furniture.

James and Mizzy enjoying a laugh on deck on this picture perfect morning.........what a backdrop.

Arcadia's Pontoons in use for the boating operation.

Sailing ashore on the Reef Cat!

From a distance...........lovely day for sailing.

A friendly Captain and Crew aboard the Reef Cat.

Interesting Architecture in Cairns.

I was here!

Well established!

The Reef Hotel Casino.

From Supermarkets, Drugstores to Designer labels - it is all here.

The SEABOURN ODYSSEY was in town. This is their new ship - SEABOURN being a sister Company of ours. Wharf Street - how appropriate!

Large wide open spaces and roads to match............no over crowding here.

Lots of beautifully manicured greenery.

Should I try my luck?

On reflection better not - can't be late back for the ship.............

A poster to advertise the Casino....

May Luck be your Lady tonight...play your cards right!
Public spaces to chill out in.

Whatever you fancy!

The old Telegraph Office now a retail shop.

Plenty of Colonial Style around mixed in with more modern buildings.

The Australian Flag flying proudly at Yorkie's Knob Landing Post.

The Yacht Club at Yorkie's Knob.
A shaded area for our passengers to relax as they wait to return to their big white ship in the harbour - ARCADIA.

Cairns is very much geared for the holidaymaker - an easy place to relax and enjoy the beautiful sea, mountains and countryside with a mountain range backdrop. We operated six shore excursions from here, therefore apart from a stroll around there is also lots to do.

I have been here before but never had the opportunity to go ashore, so I was really pleased with my trip ashore, another Port crossed off my world wide list! That's it for our Australian Ports of Call on this Round World Cruise and what a joy it was to be back in Australia.

Best wishes to all the Cusick Clan in Perth WA as we say farewell for another time.......

Bye for now,

James.

I still call Australia home.

Hi James,

Good evening to you and all on Arcadia, while writing this, first sitting passengers are enjoying their meal.Great report as usual, the previous report about the Whitsundays was brilliant the photo's were great.

When i was at sea when we sailed into Cairns that is what it was known as,how long it has been Yorkies Knob i don't know. Do the passengers have tours to nearby Green Island? That is a fantastic place to visit with its underwater observatory, also they used to have a crocodile to view.It is a place you can walk around in less than an hour.

Enjoy Kota tomorrow, the Aurora is in Fremantle on Thursday, may go down to have a look and dream.

Regards to all on Arcadia.

Hi James your blog is amazing. To visit so many places is wonderful, you are a lucky man! I dont know if you got my last message way back last week, but I am a friend of Liz and John Henderson. They were over in Newcastle for Johns check up and we caught up.Liz said I should drop you a line. Friends of ours are doing the whole 90 day trip with you. They are Debbie and Tony Baird and are staying in cabin DFA132. If you have a spare moment please tell them Avril and Peter said hello and are missing them and can't wait to hear their tales upon their return in mid April. Many thanks Avril Smith, Cullercoats, Tyne and Wear xx

Hello James

We keep looking at the blog and are amazed at the wonderful photo's (especially of you and the crew, you are all looking very healthy, with great tan's) Can I spy DJ Martin, on one of the photos? We loved Australia and would like to travel there again someday. It has been really lovely weather here sunny but very cold. yesterday we booked a holiday on the Azura but not until November, still waiting to hear if we have been lucky enough to be selected for a visit in April.

Hope you are well, once again many thanks for the marvellous blog.

Good day James

Well it's a lovely bright day here at home. I'm still home alone :-( Washing is all done and drying in the utility room! Ironing is up to date (Lol) ;-) I have also spotted our ducks that appear every year at this time ready to mate and then usually the female duck (who we've nicknamed Jemima - he's called jack and their surname is puddleduck) hides away in my bushes and produces lots of little puddleducks! 5 years we have been here now and every year they come back. Sometimes they have 2 lots of ducklings (some early spring and then some a bit later on)!

I've enjoyed looking at the latest pictures. I am assuming the ladies in red are the theatre company. They look very elegant.

Wow, they have a LV at Yorkies Knob! Mind you most places with a big gambling area tend to have a LV. There's one in Birmingham too, where on a Monday all the oriental ladies are in the store buying designer handbags with some of the money won by their husbands/partners. Was told this by a member of staff there once when we took Nat's little LV bag back to have the handle repaired. She was telling me how much these bags had gone up since she brought hers! She does like a nice handbag!

They certainly know how to look after the passengers in Yorkie's knob don't they. I don't think I've ever seen a covered seating area on the shoreside whilst waiting for a tender.

Anyway, my lovely, I must ask if you are keeping well yourself. Everytime I come on here I waffle on about what I'm up to. Just thought I ought to check your ok??

Looking forward to the next instalment James. You know you should write a book on your travels around the world!

Good evening James. How is your crossing?

Well I'm off out tomorrow to Bicester shopping village to meet up with some pals I have made through cruise connections. These guys go back to when it all started in 2002! The original posters!

Anyway, I've just had a phone call from the family - all disappointed because their helicopter trip over the grand canyon has had to be cancelled. Something to do with snow in the hills! I think the problem was getting them to the helicopter rather than the ride! It must be cold up there in them hills if there is snow on them ;-0)

Well I don't know what they will be doing today instead. They need to make the most of it because tomorrow they will be heading home. Yippeeee can't wait for Thursday lunchtime when they should be calling me to pick them up :-)

Best wishes my lovely
