Sydney Opera House in full view at 0600 hours in the morning - between lights.
G’Day Everyone,
Greetings from one of the loveliest Cities on the earth. It is always very exciting sailing into Sydney and that rewarding feeling that you have sailed such a long way by sea and now you have arrived in Australia. The sense of arrival is more pronounced here than any other port in the world. From the approach to the ‘Heads’ at Port Jackson to the treasure chest of a harbour that lies behind. This is something like 300 miles of coastline in the harbour.
Sydney Opera House is not only one of the most unusual buildings in the world but it is the busiest performing arts centre in the world. While you would think that the building is floating in the harbour it is anchored atop of 80 concrete piers which are suck up to 25 meters below sea level. The Concert Hall houses the largest mechanical tracker organ in the world with 10,500 pipes.
The u shaped Circular Quay wedged between the Opera House and the Rocks is the hub of Sydney’s water traffic and ferry services.

Meet Beyrl and Dorothy - World Cruisers.! Hello to all your friends and family back home!

Ally, Anayna and Lauren finish off the check in of passengers.
For all you retired Pursers - I thought you would like to see that we still use passport boxes!
Meet Ira Lubell and Louis Bonsignore who travelled from San Francisco to Sydney with us. They spotted me outside the Sydney Passenger Terminal and wanted to tell me that their Cabin Stewardess Rhoda, Dining Room Waiters and the Gym Instructors have made their cruise! Best wishes to you all and please come back soon.
James was here!
I am sure many of you have been here - the escalator to and from the Terminal Building.

I loved my walk in the City all the way up Pitt Street. On my way back I walked all around the Opera House and then toured the Rocks.
Hope all is going well with you and we ran nine organised excursion during our call including one to the Blile Mountains.
Best wishes for now,
James.
Real people, real places. real memories.

For many years I had dreamed of sailing into Sydney. The only way to see the Opera House et al, I thought Now I have been fortunate enough to have sailed in on two cruises. Yes, it is as breathtaking as I had hoped and today you have taken me back there. Even on the escallator to the ship! Your Blog is so delightful, thank you for working so hard to bring all the sights and atmosphere into my home.
Weather here better today, much milder and even some sunshine. It is to be short lived we are told.
Regards to all
Once again I feel as though I am on this world cruise with you James. In mind if not in body ;-0)
Tom would love to go down under, but there is no way I could fly there! I think we need to leave it until he retires and we used the kids inheritance to go out via one world cruise, stay for the best part of a year and then return on the next world cruise - That's the way to do it. But I also want to go from the east coast to the west coast of the US as well. Not sure the kids inheritance would stretch to doing everything I want to do - unfortunately.
Talking of flights. DD is winging her way home was I write. I think she has made a mistake with her decision, but it's her life and I'm damn sure anything I've got to say, she isn't going to change her mind!
I'm back to have another look at these Sydney photos. I want to take it all in - ready for when I get there (Lol). I did take some webcam grabs of your entrance into Sydney - Did DD pass them on?
Looking forward to the next instalment (as usual)
Elaine (aurorabore)
That looks wonderful. I long to be there - but next year hopefully.
I imagine you had a big turnover od passengers in Sydney - I hope it all went smoothly and that the new passengers are settling in.
Now you are on your way back to the UK via all those wonderful places.
Enjoy the rest of OZ.

Hi, thanks for a great blog!
We've been following the Arcadia since Southampton - My mum and dad are on board (Jean and John from Leeds - love and snugs from us all) They're having a wonderful time, it's a lifelong dream come true for them. Sydney looks just beautiful, I was lucky enough to speak to my mum while you were approaching the Opera House and managed to feel a little of the excitement! The photo's make it more real for us who have to wait some time before being able to 'live the dream!'
Take care and always remember to make a memory wherever you are!!

Hi James,
What great photos, takes us back to last year when we were with you on Arcadia in Sydney. We are enjoying your blog as usual and the pictures are superb. By the way, while sailing through the Panama alongside Arcadia in January we managed to get a good picture of you, smiling as usual! What a great experience that was.
Sandra & Ian Elliot
Great Blog and great idea. Its time I went on another cruise!
Hi Geoff,
Thankyou for thinking of us!
Yes we are off on Aurora on Sunday, finish up at work tomorrow.
Can't wait!Have to pack on Sat.
We have very strong winds and big seas,[4-6 metres] here about 40kms north of Brisbane, believe it could be worse as far down as Coffs. Could be a jiggly ride for Arcadia on her way to Brisbane tonight. Guess that Aurora may miss it all as she is in Townsville tomorrow and there is a better forcast for Saturday and Sunday.
Trudi and I are really looking forward to Perth, we haven't been there before.
Will try and keep up with the James blog while we are away, all depends on the satellite coverage I guess, will be able to catch up on it in May when we return home though.
All the best to you and all the James bloggers!
Abi
Thanks Geoff, had a great day but sad to say didnt win the lottery, so bang goes the Grand Voyage for a little while !!!
Ros
Hello James
Sydney oh to be there again! reminds us of the GV 2009 20th/21st February, what a welcome the Arcadia had, we never ever thought we would see Sydney Opera house for real, thanks for the memories.
Judith and Colin
Just a short note to say that you do a great job on the blog ontop of everything else there is to be done onboard. Great photos and an excellent way to follow the Arcadia on her way around the world..would love to have been there. Please pass an extra special hello to the tours team, Belinda, Sheldon and the Ventilation Officer :) from Lauren.
Hi James

one day when the piggy bank is full.......
Ray
Yes James it seems 'one day' for a lot of us, once again thanks for the photos as good and interesting as ever, Oh how I would love to see the Sydney Opera House.
Cheers
Lesley
Hello!
Thanks for all your messages - great reading.
Elaine,
Thanks for the photos from the web cam, hope DD arrived home safe and well.
We were in Brisbane yesterday and now on our way to Whitsunday Islands. We passed Aurora today at 1115 and it was electric!!
Best wishes all,
James.
Best wishes
Hi James,
That would have been magical for all on both the ships.
Hi Abi
Have a great trip on the Aurora, i was hoping to do a segment on her, but unfortunately was not able too.Maybe in a few years time. It is good for us when P&O ships come into Fremantle as it does sometimes enable us to do a sector and enjoy the pampering on board.
Hope the seas have calmed down now.As they say "Bon Voyage"
Hi to all the lucky people on Arcadia.
Geoff Witts Perth
Hi James
Yes, Natalie is home safe and sound. My house now looks like a tip - because she's decided to have a sort out of her room - Little miss organised, wants to be even more organised!
How was your stay in Brisbane? See your next port is the Whitsunday Islands. Last year Natalie was having her lunch (at a well know burger outlet!) when she was spotted by a girl that used to live in the same little cul de sac that we did when they were at school. What a small world!
See you past my favourite ship! Bet there was lots of excitement between the two. Did the captain blow his horn several times?? it's always quite exciting when you pass another ship in the fleet.
Well gym is calling! It gets more and more difficult to keep the weight off as you get older! ;-(
Looking forward to your next instalment.
Elaine (aurorabore)
Hi All,
OMG, really don't think that I am sleeping tonight, packing is still waiting. Was amazed today when I decided to take a look at the web cams and saw Aurora approaching Arcadia on the Arcadia Cam and Arcadia approaching Aurora on the Aurora cam, there were lots of passengers and crew on Aurora and they were all waving, I could imagine the noise of excitment and the horns.
Yahoo, am going on Aurora tomorrow all the way to Southampton again.
This time last year we were on beautiful Arcadia, how time flies.
All the best to everyone, and Yahoo again.
Abi
