Good Day Everyone,
We had a great day in Honolulu. The weather was perfect and our stay in port was enhanced by 2.5 hours as we sailed at 2030 hours and not 1800 hours as planned - much to the delight of everyone on board......!
I have some super photographs of the day and once I get the opportunity I will post these for you to enjoy. Thank you for all your messages, I wish I could reply to them all individually, but I can't! I will soon need a blog PA - anyone want to apply for the post?
There is so much to do here in Honolulu - from Waikiki Beach to Pearl Harbour, visit the only Royal Place in US Territory, take the Atlantis Submarine, hop on a Helicopter trip, or just go shopping and people watching at the Ala Moana Shopping Mall - with no less than four of the Major US Department Stores anchoring each corner of the complex!
We saw Commodore Steve Burgoine safely off the ship at Noon and welcomed Captain Ian Walters on board.
All in all a great day and once I get my desk cleared there will be more to follow. We have our Gala Parties this evening so we will all be on 'parade' in our finest livery. Arcadia is now on the first of her two day passage to Christmas Island. Apparently the Island got its name when Captain Cook discovered it - over the Christmas Period he thought I will call this place 'Christmas Island'. I love simplicity! There are no excursions on Christmas Island it is simply a unique opportunity to visit a very unspoilt Island and meet the locals, and if you fancy, purchase some hand made souvenirs.
Must dash and get ready for a sparkling evening ahead............
Bye for now,
James.

James - I will be your blog PA!!!! Jill Barrows
I think you'll have a LONG list of applicants for your Blog PA vacancy! That's two of us already.
I think Christmas Island sounds so terribly romantic - the South Sea islands really appeal to us and we hope to do that section of the cruise before too long.

Hi Jill B
The job's yours!
Have a great day,
James.
Gill,
I will keep you waitlisted!!
Regards
James.
Hello James
Well I did offer to stay on as your PA didn't I?? That was a missed opportunity! ;-0) Don't think Tom would have been too happy though being left to fend for himself for 3 months!!
So I have to ask - did you get a visitation from the US inspectors in Honolulu?
Well DD seemed to enjoy her shopping expedition. She kept texting me every so often telling me what she'd brought and what a bargain they were too!
Well, the new P & O forum is still in need of tweaking. Have you been and had a look at it recently James? I like it, BUT and it's a big BUT there are lots of problems that need to be ironed out. I'm sure when they are ironed out though it will be as popular as ever! But for now it is quite slow and difficult to navigate.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing your photos from Honolulu.
BTW, just to let you know what it's like here - well - it's snowing again. Thankfully not cold enough to settle, just wet snow! But the weather later on this week is set for real snow again according to the forecasters.
BTW, I don't know if you have heard, but Johnny Dankworth has died at the age of 82. The Dankworths run a place near where we live called the Stables where they have all kinds of entertainment, with jazz evenings, comedians and groups. They have Go West on there in a couple of months.
Well it's our anniversary tomorrow - and I have no idea what to get Tom (as usual). He's very difficult to buy for!
Bye for now.

Christmas Island...I was confused but now realise that there are two.
We also have a Christmas Island, which is a territory of Australia, 2300 N/W of Perth WA in the Indian Ocean, is largely used as a detention centre for sea bound assylum seekers coming mostly from various countries in Asia.
Christmas Island Oz was discovered by a British Captain as well, Capt. William Mynors who named it Christmas Island as he sailed past on Christmas Day 1643.
Wow, what a history lesson for me, am glad that I have sorted my confusion.
Have a great time on Christmas Island on the Eastern side and far away from Oz.
Abi
PS, what time is it with you guys now?
Are you 10, 11 or 12 hours behind?
Elaine (aurorabore)
Happy anniversary for tomorrow Elaine and Tom!
Have a great day!
Hi Elaine,
We are GMT -10 hours and I should be in my bed by now! Good Night.
Happy Anniversary to you and Tom and whatever you do - don't buy Tom a shirt!!!!
Wishing you many more.....Enjoy,
ever watch that movie - you've got mail.......!
James
PS we did get our USPH Inspectors in Honolulu and all went well.
Hi Geoff in Perth WA
Here is some information from my good friend in San Francisco - Catharin Moore Hooper -
Now, Tower Records . . . is, sadly NO MORE . . like many record retailers, they have gone the way of high button shoes, replaced by iPods etc. If your reader has a specific request for a record, I would suggest he go on line for something called Village Records which coincidentally, is located in Mill Valley, California . . .they are legendary for those who still use vinyl records . . .of all types.
Hope this helps,
James.
Thanks James - I often think of returning to sea. I am training to be a personal trainer now in fact and thought when I am qualified of teaching at sea..... I can double up as a PA for your blog too in between lessons!!!
Love reading your blogs too here in Saudi!

Looks like I'm too late for the PA job!! I am a trained PA.....and a Port Presenter so I could do both if needed....just call me............
Thanks for the blog James - I look forward to reading each episode
Looks like I have missed out on the job, but never mind. Please don't keep leaving port 2 hours later everytime or you'll be a week late in picking me up in Hong Kong. LOL
Sharon
I guess I am way too late to apply for the Blog PA job James, but I am quite happy to be waitlisted. Can't wait to see your Honolulu photo's, I am sure they will be spectacular as usual.
Cheers
Mary G.K.
Hi James,
Thanks for the update about what happened to Tower Records.
I did not apply for the PA job as i knew there would be too many applicants,
Hi Elaine,
Happy Anniversary to you and Tom for today. I was looking at the forecast for the UK and towards the end of the week they are expecting more snow, but not as bad as they had in the USA. Will be thinking of all in the UK as we have temps in the low 30s, and clear blue skies. My niece is coming out in a couple of weeks so i hope she brings out plenty of summer clothes usually February is our hottest month.
regards to all on Arcadia

Hi Elaine,
just read your comment in regard to Cliff, and about Tower Records, Yes he was great, he did two shows in Perth, and he is in Adelaide tonight. I hope i am that fit if i get to 69 years old.No beer belly or any fat to be seen on any of the group, they keep in great shape.Tower Records was a great shop, i reckon records give off better sound than any of these CD's now a days Keep warm.
Regards Geoff
