After a frolicsome night Arcadia arrived in Vigo at 0900 hours today. We sailed into the harbour in darkness and it was just getting light as we went alongside our berth. The picture above was taken from Promenade Deck - you can see the moon and the lights of the City of Vigo.
Vigo climbs the slopes of Monte del Castro rising tier by tier from an avenue of trees to a citadel crowning the height. Santiago de Compostela is the area's most historic attraction, which draws thousands of visitors to this very day. Except ours! We had to cancel our excursions to Santiago de Compostela due to ice on the roads.
I have been to Santiago Cathedral and it is well worth a visit. It is a monument to Christ's apostle, James, whose relics are believed to have been discovered there in the 19th century. Crowds flock to this great shrine which was once the third most important place of pilgrimage after Jerusalem and Rome.
I was watching Sky News this morning and I see that the UK is ICELAND! We can be glad that we are having such good weather on this new year cruise. I will be clearing my desk today and getting all in order for my end of cruise business. Steve Mann - Senior Purser Food and Beverage Manager joined us today for a handover with Steve Mitchell. Steve Mitchell is off to Oriana for his next tour of duty. It's great to see and sail with Steve Mann once more - the last time we worked together was on Aurora in 2002. Working at sea is all about change, as people come and go all the time. If ever we have the perfect team - it does not last for long as someone moves on. The secret is to make a good team out of who you have got! This is the advice I give my team.
Must go now and do some 'real' work!
All good wishes,
James.

Hi... love Arcadia & the blog but reading reports on Cruise critic that seem to say the weather at sea has been dreadful,so bad people are taking to their beds & the ship looks like an OAP's outing. Who is right?
frolicsome James???!!!!! Our cabin felt like a roller coaster (Lol) ;-0) And my knees playing up today (I think because of the trying to balance wearing high heels) Another ;-o)
Have had a great time though. James I'm going to fill in one of the cruise nomination award bit's of paper, but I'm not nominating any individual, because as far as I'm concerned all the staff have been excellent.
As for the report before mine. Age is only a number. There are less younger adult passengers on this cruise to what I am used to at christmas and if I'm honest I've missed our usual travelling companions (BIL, SIL and niece) who travelled on Ventura as my niece is only 12. However all the staff on here have done a wonderful job from day one (IMO).
Not looking forward to getting home ;-(

Not my feelings, just reporting what has been said. Don't blame you not wanting to get home it's a nightmare here.
Glad to know you have enjoyed in your stay at Vigo. Great pictures, and, as I said you yesterday, sunny and bright day. Bon voyage.
I hope your last day is enjoyable and that those who leave have a safe journey home.
Really looking forward to your Worldie reports though.
Congrats Elaine and Tom.

Hi James
So pleased to see you back on board Arcadia, I have really enjoyed your Christmas blog, but I am really looking forward to checking in each day with you on the worldie!! It was this time last year that I came across your blog and followed you everyday, plus it was a real bonus to meet you in the summer on our Norwegian cruise. I can’t wait for you to start. I hope that people don’t have any trouble getting down to Southampton as the weather here is so bad.
I work in a school and it had to close at 11.00am on Wednesday and hasn’t reopened yet. We have A’level exams next week so we really need some sunshine to melt all this ice. Anyway safe journey to all those travelling.
One day I hope to be joining you on a world cruise but we still have at least 10 years to go before we retire, lets hope we win the lotto! I think I would spend it all with P&O travelling the world, lol
Anyway all the best James and I look forward to the blogs!

Carol Loran
Hi James, a fantastic blog. Looking forward to joining Arcadia once more in Hong Kong
Sorry James, this one is for Elaine! Congrats on your vows renewal celebrations. You both look very glam and pleased with yourselves. Very much hope you got home safely and without incident.
And this for James! I have read that some passengers did not make it to Southampton for the Worldie due to the weather here. How dreadful is that? I would have to move heaven and earth to reach the next port.
What a lot of super photos. Please keep us up to date with all the news from Arcadia. Weather deteriorating here all the time.We need cheering up.
Regards to all Judith
