Hello Everyone,
We are now sailing back home from Barbados! This is now day three of our six sea days. After the outbound crossing which was much talked about we are enjoying a very smooth sea on the way home - thankfully. Passengers are enjoying the outside activities and the open decks. It is still lovely and warm. Just what you need to hear sitting back in the UK in the midst of snow and ice!!!
We were really blessed in all our ports of call in the Caribbean - the weather was perfect for arrivals and sail aways and everything else in between!
St Lucia is an island with lunch valleys of coconut and banana plantations. There were four ships in port so lots of people on the move. There is a choice of 14 excursions, with everything from Jeep Treks to Calypso Cooking.
St Vincent is a volcanic island of steep mountain ridges, valleys and waterfalls. A fertile paradise which is full of hidden treasures. We have a choice of 11 excursions here. Many passengers enjoyed their sail to the exclusive privately owned island of Mustique.
Barbados is an all time favourite of mine! I have been there many times over the years on both Oceana and Arcadia doing fly cruise turnarounds. What better way to escape the British winter than to fly to Barbados and pick up your ship? Barbados has beautiful beaches, warm blue sea and many superb restaurants. It's people are very warm and welcoming and there is still that inescapable colonial 'feel' that add to the island's unique atmosphere and exclusive style. Ventura was in port with us, so I popped across to visit Patrick Harrison EP. We enjoyed a coffee and a tour of the ship.
I hope to post some photographs soon. We are all busy planning for one of our biggest turnarounds of the year, with over 200 members of the Ship's Company changing over and all the Round World Cruise Logistics. For those of us staying on board we are really looking forward to our World Cruise with great excitement.
What a great start to 2010!
Best wishes meantime.
James

Oh... and happy new year to everyone!
Hello,
I have what appears to be a difficult request.
I would like to Cruise on the Arcadia for a small segment from Kota Kinabalu (Borneo) to Hong Kong. (part of the J57 segment.
Only I have heard KK is not a "turn around point".
So I cant get on the ship.
I am in Year 2 of a 10 year journey to travel round the world without the usage of air travel. I have so far traveled from Australia to Borneo.
My website is here.. www.neilsrtw.blogspot.com
I am an independent Photojournalist. I use my photography to help non government organizations promote there causes.
I would greatly appreciate your consideration as to making an exception, and allowing me to embark in KK so i can continue my journey.
I will of course offer my photos as a way of thanks.
Yours sincerely,
N Liddle
Happy New Year James. Not sure if you can answer this ...but here goes!
As your passengers prepare for their world cruise (lucky peeps)...they are applying for visas for countries where the ship will call, even if they plan to stay on board.
What happens about the crew? Do they all have to have visas too? It must be mighty complicated with all the nationalities involved. Just curious! Thanks in anticipation.
Will be following the blog round the world with you....wishing I was there on my favourite ship!
Lovely to hear you're having good weather - when we're not!
Because of all snow - which makes getting out of our road all but impossible - our two cases will not be going on a World Cruise without us. We are unable to get to Southampton tomorrow to drop them off.
However, we have a good luggage allowance so will just have to take a couple more with us on the flight.
I hope the remainder of your crossing continues smooth and that your big turnaround day is equally smooth. Can't wait for you to leave on Sunday so I can follow your progress while counting down myself.
