Landfall memories

Anyone recognise where this is? Taken this afternoon...

Good Day Everyone,
Just clearing my desk in preparation for our Southampton call tomorrow. I really never do get used to the last day of a cruise, especially a longer cruise like this one of 16 nights. The farewells and we'll be back, thanks for a lovely holiday and so it goes on. Where will you be next year......?

The weather held out for us all the way from Gibraltar to now. Calm seas and bright sunshine, bless the Bay of Biscay! See the pictures..

Afternoon James

No breakfast report today!

I'm glad the weather held out for your crossing of the bay of biscay. Trust me the weather here to the back end of last week was just dreadful! Today here in the home counties it's dry but overcast. At least on the webcam I can see that there are blue patches down in Southampton for your departure.

Love the photographs. Isn't Sophie the commodores oldest daughter? DD was very friendly with Rosie at one point when they were all young cruisers. I did see Rosie in 2006 working as a photographer on Arcadia. What is she up to nowadays?

Well according to the portunus mag this is your last cruise before your leave. Are you still getting off on the 20th September? Who is the captain onboard at the moment?

DD has discovered from your blog that she at least knows one person when she gets onboard 2 weeks today. I hope he looks after her for me! He is one of the cadets in your feature on the 23rd August.

Well I hope the North sea is as kind to you guys as the bay of biscay. I believe that the Grand Princess and the Oceana both got caught in the tail end of hurricane danny on their way back from that direction on Friday!

Hi James,
We just got home in time to see Arcadia sail out past Ryde (on the AIS Live webcam). Now I'm just catching up your blog since Venice. Wonderful photos - thanks!

We went to the second showing of the caberet evening last night by the Entertainment crew. They did a song "If I was not upon this ship..." - it was so funny and the timing was excellent. I don't know if you have a photo of it but it would be fun to see it on your blog.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise in the Baltic, as good as the J913 one just finished.

Best regards

Laurence (and Brenda)

I just love following your blog James, trouble is I spend my life wishing I was there!! I really hope you will carry it on when you come back from leave. Maybe you could put 2009 & 2010 World Voyages together and publish them, it would make a lovely souvenir book, even if P&O used it for advertising. They could publish it in the Sunday paper magazines in instalments! Just make sure you get the royalties.
Please carry on your excellent work James,
Take Care

Were booked on the Xmas cruise too. I am on countdown (and trying to get into the gym as much as possible or else I'm not going to get into my evening dresses)! It's 14 weeks this Friday! And the weeks seem to be flying by so it will be upon us in next to no time. Yeahhhhhhhhh - Caribbean sunshine here we come!

Hi James

Just unpacked and have now got the Post Arcadia Blues", J913 was a wonderful cruise, it was brilliant that we had an overnight in Venice, it made all the difference, as we visited Venice on Aurora in 2007 and felt it was all a bit rushed, so kudo's to P&O for including the overnight's, we also did an overnight in Maderia in Nov on Arcadia and it was also fab, so long may P&O include these in their future itineraries. James you are great company, always laughing and it makes for a happy crew around you, keep up the good work on the Blog and have a nice time when you go home on the 20th.

Elaine its a good idea to do some extra gymn work, because I was struggling to fit into my clothes by the end of the cruise, I am sure its that sea air that shrinks them.Ha Ha.

Cheers

Good to read the blog. Hope you are on the world cruise leaving on Jan 10th - we're doing the first leg to SF..

Is the Arcadia name on the benches used for lifejackets on the promenade deck?

James,

You getting off as we get on, was it something we said.

Nic & Pam Laurens....

Ps Go to bed now, it's late :)

Hi James, Lovely pic of the glamorous Bourgoine ladies. Sophie got married this summer, I hope they all had a super day. That photo of the Arcadia sign is definitely on one of the life jacket stores, but someone has already recognised it.
The Bay looked supendous, the gods were on the side of Arcadia during that passage. Keep blogging, we need it to keep up our spirits in this dreary weather. Although it is quite warm today, it doesn't sparkle like it does on the ship! Regards to all Jay.

Gday James

Looked at the Aurora webcam yesterday
and the weather in NY looked nicer than where you were, hope the weather improves for you over the next few days,

Maybe P&O could schedule Arcadia to do a transatlantic crossing in the next couple of years.

Looking forward to the updates to come, please say hi to Steve Mitchell.

Regards Geoff and Julieta Witts Perth

Hi Win and Jad - you are correct - this is one of the wooden benches on Deck 10 by the deck sports area.
Best wishes
James.

Hi Elaine!

Sophie is the Commodore's eldest daughter. Rosie got married recently to Simon and has her own business. Commodore goes on leave on the 20th September and Captain Ian Walters takes command! The north sea was most kind to us - thankfully as we enjoyed the Commodore's Welcome on baord GALA Receptions last evening.

James.

Hi Mary G - my rounds of the parish were just not the same today without bumping into you and Tom - what a great time we had - come back and see us soon!

James.

Laurance and Brenda,
Can't find any footage of If I were not upon this ship.

James.

Elaine and Norma,
Friendship is wonderful and I am gald that this blog can be of service. Ever wonder just how many words contain the word ship.
See you all at Christmas!!!
James.

Hi James, It was I, Jay, who asked after the wedding. Got the wrong daughter, very sorry. Thanks for putting me right. Glad to know you had a calm return home. I have just seen some pictures of damage done to Oceana last week during a force 11. Not sure I would be able to board a ship again if I had experienced that!! Regards to all.

Hi James

I am so looking forward to christmas. It can't come quick enough. Now autumn is heading our way (although today has been lovely here, with nice blue skies and temps up in the mid 20's) I am looking forward to my dose of winter vitamin D!

Is the ship question a quiz. If so I'll get working on it ;-)

Oh I shall have to tell DD about Rosie getting married. I should have said 'eldest' rather than 'oldest' when I was referring to Sophie - should have re read what I'd written then maybe I'd have picked it up!

Jay

I have come back through several really bad storms mostly on the return from Xmas cruises. One many years ago on Aurora where lots of internal damage occured - TV console in the kiddies area broke, the games machines in the kids area fell to the floor - couple of christmases ago on Oriana I actually had to admit defeat and take myself off to bed for an early night. I'd had several good dinners prior to this so missing one dinner was no big deal - besides as scottylass says, you really do struggle to get in your clothes when it gets nearer to the end of the cruise. I have never ever though, felt as if my life has been in danger on any of the ships when the weather has been like this. And I still go back for more!

Geoff, I too would love to do the US trip on Arcadia. So I second that suggestion!
