Good Day All,
After all the hustle and bustle of two days in Venice, the next day Arcadia dropped her anchor at Korcula in Croatia, a beautiful small town which sits on a hilly peninsula, with defensive towers and a compact cluster of houses red roofed houses which are all nicely kept. We had our tenders (boats) in the water and the sea conditions were kind. Korcula is a medieval Dalmatian town with a very mild climate, beautiful monuments, treasures and architecture. Some people refer to it as a 'mini Dubrovnik'. I like to stroll around and see the Rector's Palace, the City Museum housed in a 16th century mansion and the Cathedral Sveti Marko which is built in the Gothic - Renaissance style. There are lots of cafes and restaurants along the coast to have a coffee, beer or lunch and watch the world go by. I did not manage to get ashore! This does not bother me as I have been a few times in the past. There will always be another time......Korcula is well worth exploring.
That evening I went to see Vince Earl in the Palladium Theatre who gave us all a good laugh, and then it was up to the aft end to the Aquarius Pool for the deck party. A balmy evening and very hot on deck. It was great to see everyone out dancing to the music on deck and to bump into so many people for a chat. It reminded me of the wonderful deck parties we used to have on the Caribbean cruises.
On Monday we were alongside our berth in Corfu. Another scorcher of a day and everyone who went ashore came back with good tales of their adventures ashore. I love the Greek Islands, but I have only ever visited them on the ships, one day I would like to return for a longer stay.
There is something for everyone in Corfu whether you just want to lie on a beach for the day, or sit in the cafes and people watch. There are lots of interesting tours on offer from Greek Gastronomy, Water Park Fun, Cruise and Swim, or just leisurely sightseeing. The old quarter of the town is very interesting with its tall houses and narrow alleyways. The British influence is evident with the bandstand and the cricket square. The Mon Repos Palace is here which is where Prince Philip was born!
After a misty start, Tuesday was a beautiful day at sea with sun shine all day - much to the delight of our passengers. I have convivial company at the Gold Tier Luncheon in The Meridian Restaurant and it turned out that one couple who were new to me, shared the same grandchildren as Jean Smith who travels with us a lot. Many of you will know Jean as she used to work for a well known travel agency! Sending greetings from Arcadia to Jean and John up in North Wales or Cyprus - wherever you may be. Come back and see us soon!! What a small world it is........
Thanks for all your messages received and it is good to talk to many blog readers on board and as you know we have Mary J Kerr on board at this time! Mary is great company as is her husband Tom. Our next call will be Gibraltar on Thursday and two sea days on our homeward leg to Southampton - hope there is some nice weather waiting for us in the UK - we are accustomed to this now.
Bye for now,
James.
To him who is determined it remains only to act.

Ive really enjoyed reading the blog of this current cruise. It's bought back some lovely memories of more or less the same itinerary that we did in July onboard Arcadia. Oh happy Days! It had been ages since I was last on Arcadia, but loved it - So many ships so little time!
Nice to see Mario's happy smiley face on so many of your recent photos. Mario 'came to my rescue' during my cruise (he knows what he did)it may not sound a lot to some, but its the little things that matter! He was an absolute joy to meet and we hope to see him on a cruise sometime soon. Ask him if he has been to Ikea yet please :)

Oh James stop it!!--- I have just read the Korcula blog and here it is raining very hard indeed. I could use some other words to describe it but not on a family blog. Seriously, I am very glad you are having such a super cruise. We just love Korcula, a delightful place. Three days ago we became grandparents for the second time and so everything is just wonderful rain or not.
Regards to everyone Jay
Hi James,
Another great blog, with great photo's once again, some of the photo's did not load this seems to happen a few times on my computer, but then the next time i go on the blog the photo's will be there.(strange) i wonder if it happens to other blog readers?
Love the ship looking aft there is nothing better than sea days as you really could be the only people in the world at that time with not a care to worry about.
have a great day in Gibraltar.
Hi to all on Arcadia.

Morning James
Oh I loved the photos today. We went to Korcula for the first time last year on Ventura. What a quaint little place. Had a lovely ice cream whilst walking around the town. Ended up sitting watching the world go by on a bench whilst all the locals went for a swim. I have a picture of some guy in the most hideous trunks (Lol)! I've seen some sights on the ship with men sunbathing in hideous trunks, but none as bad as these! I had to get a picture to show just exactly what I meant (Lol again)! ;-) Also have a photo of just how close the aircraft come over the ship in Corfu. I cruise because I have a terrible fear of flying and to have one of these looming over you whilst sunbathing on your balcony is actually quite unnerving!
I see Richie is over there on Arcadia with you. He was an ents officer on Aurora last christmas.
Gosh I haven't seen Vince Earl since our days on Canberra. I actually think he's a very good comedian. To be honest I have seen Tom O'Connor so many times now (I love the guy, but it's the same old jokes every time) it's nice to see other comedians for a change. However one that didn't go down very well with me and I was looking forward to seeing him too, was Roy Walker. What a let down (more disappointment than let down, but for reasons I won't discuss on here)! On our recent baltic cruise we came across him being very rude to a member of staff. I'm sure he thought he was big and clever but IMO he was just downright rude! I don't know who he thought my OH was but he kept aksing him about horse racing - OH is not into horse racing or horses. Just golf and footie! Talking of which James, coming from the emerald isle do you like football? I have been on the ferry from Dublin in the past with a mixture of Liverpool, Man Utd and Celtic supporters. These seem to be the main three that they support. I think your from NI though aren't you?
Well as for the weather James. It looks absolutely perfect in your pictures, but over the past couple of days we've had some dreadful weather here at home. Couple of days ago I was sat in a traffic jam in the most horrendous hail storm. The size of the hail was so big I thought I may have had dents in the car. Thankfully I didn't. Then yesterday it just poured with rain and this morning it is very very windy :-0) I hope you guys manage to miss this weather. Oh and the weather forecasters reckon were going to have an indian summer (Lol). It's probably the same indian summer as the barbecue one! Non existent!
Enjoy Gibraltar. Even if it's only to stock up on duty free!

Hello James
We are particularly enjoying your blog at the moment as we did a similar cruise in May. It was great to see the photograph of Roshan as he was our butler in May and gave us excellent service. We are disappointed that we will not be seeing him when we return to Arcadia in November as he is getting married in October.Please pass on our best wishes to him (we were a mother and daughter in Shanghi suite}
It is good to see some sunny weather on your photographs it cheers us up on the rainy days we are having.
Regards to you and everyone on Arcadia we are looking forward to getting back on board in November.
Congrats Jay!! Is it a girl or boy baby?
