For hands that do dishes.....

Good Day everyone,

Do you every get tired of loading and unloading your dishwasher? Well on board Arcadia it is a full time job for many people. As you know Carl Luxford returned to us at Dubai. Carl is a great blog fan so I asked him for his help to feature some of our back of house staff. So here we have it.

We are now in our second sea day since leaving the Suez Canal, the weather is holding up nicely, yesterday was bright and sunny although a little cooler. We had our farewell Grand Voyage Luncheon which was very enjoyable for those who attended and hosted tables and there were many tales to tell over lunch. Today is has been a little cooler again and this afternoon we have seen some rain! However sea conditions continue to be kind and that what really matters! Looking forward to Italy tomorrow.

Feeding 1900 Passengers and 900 crew creates a lot of washing up !!!!

Here is a little insight into the world of that team.. The Back of House Team.

The Back of House team reports to the Deputy F&B Manger, and is made up of 4 supervisors and 40 crew.

The Supervisors, from L to R …. James, Aldrin, Kenneth, Pawan

In each of all the Galleys on Arcadia is a Platehouse, Potwash and Service Press.

Rony, Prasant and Sidhesh loading one of the flight dishwashers in the Main Galley

The Back of House Team wash some 96,000 pieces of China a day, plus glassware and cutlery..

Janak unloading the Dishwasher

Then not forgetting all the pots and pans.

Rahul pre spraying cooking equipment

Naresh unloading the Potwash machine

They also maintain the Service Line for the Galley, setting up replenishing china for the Galley team to create those beautiful dinners.

Mayur restocking the service counter

Then at the end of the Day it’s the Night Cleaning team who clean down all the Galleys and Cookers.

So the next time you feel cleaning your oven is a chore - spare a thought for us! My thanks to Carl for his assistance with the photographs for this blog. We have just sailed through the Messina Straits which is a nice point of interest for this afternoon.

Enjoy your day, hope all your Easter plans are working out!
Best wishes,
James

I will never sigh again when I load or unload my dishwasher or when I, once in a blue moon, wash a pot by hand - promise!!!

I heard once that unless the cutlery showed some white speckles from the dishwasher it was not deemed to be clean! How true is that or did I just dream it?

The food on board is fantastic and everyone deserves praise especially thos ethat plate up, clear up and scrub up behind the scenes.
Its lovely & warm here in Italy and should be the same tomorrow.

Bounagiornata domani e divertirsi!!
Buon Pasqua e tanti auguri

Hi James

Just wanted to quickly wish you a Happy Easter!!! I have been so busy for the past week or so I am just catching up on your blog! I picked up DD last Wednesday for a couple of days at home whilst Oriana went for refit. Back down to Southampton last Friday for a visit to see Nicole on Ventura! It was lovely to see her again. She's a real breath of fresh air. I'm her English Mum! Had a lovely weekend at the Marriott hotel just outside of Southampton. Then on Sunday I went on Oriana for the 3 night cruise to Bruges and Cherbourg (Le Havre was off because of the ongoing french strikes). Cherbourg was actually quite a nice little place once you got away from the port area! So only just back from that and now I am rushing round like a headless chicken trying to get the house straight for the outlaws!!!! My BIL, his wife and their daughter are our guests for Easter. So I'll probably not get much chance to look on the site again now until early next week!

I'm sure my Bruges goodies will go down well on Easter Sunday ;-)

Have a good easter yourself! Hope the Easter bunny hops his way to Arcadia :-)

Hi James,

Happy Easter to all Arcadia, it was nice to see behind the scenes again, all the people that work so hard for the benefit of all on board.

Enjoy Italy today, i do hope you keep blogging when you get back from your leave.

For most people here it is 4 days off work, not for me my working week is just beginning.Imagine the chaos onboard if you all deceided to have the four day break most of us get,you all deserve a pat on the back, no such thing as public holidays when working at sea.

I haven't had time over the past couple of weeks to read your blog but the school term has now ended and I have spent the morning 'catching up'. Fascinating stories from some of your passengers. My friends , John and Glenise Newman, who joined you in Fremantle taught in the Australian desert regions and the outback for many years. They have many a tale to tell!
My good wishes to them and all on board Arcadia and a special thank you James, for your update each time. I am not sure how many hours you have in your day - you couldn't passibly do all that you do in just 24!! Happy Easter and a great time whilst you're on leave.

Hi James

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed reading your brilliant blog (how do you find the time?)each day during Arcadia's first World Cruise. Although we've travelled on Arcadia several times before, being many years off retirement a World Cruise is a long way off. Sharing the experience with you, other crew (many of whom we recognise) and some of the passengers has been the next best thing, and we're hoping to do a segment next year.

Enjoy your well deserved break and hopefully we'll get to meet you in the summer, when we embark Arcadia on 31st July to visit the Fjords.
