Civitavecchia - Italy - Port for Rome.

Arcadia alongside her berth at Civitavecchia in Italy - the port for Rome.

The main road by the Promenade area.

Some sort of hobby car racing going on - lots for families to do and being Good Friday it was very busy.

A general view of the harbour area. This is a busy port with ferries, Cruise ships and Cargo vessels.

The local Church where I did pop in for a few minutes of quiet reflection. See the little engine belonging to a local sight seeing train in wheels!

The fun of the fair along the Promenade.

The main shopping area.

Love the style - just park your car in the middle of the street if that suits! Nice car!

Not too sure what is going on here outside the Opera House................

.................!

Good to see come classic architecture again.

This little cafe is a good place for watching the world go by........

Some of the creative public area arrangements by our on board florists.

Good Day Everyone,

Here we are in Civitavecchia. Wonderful to see Gabriella our port agent here once again and it felt kind of strange to be back in Europe after all our far away places that we have visited. A beautiful day here with the sun high in the sky. Civitavecchia is the gateway to the Eternal City of Rome. The quayside was the usual hive of activity with the morning tour departures. We offer a lot of different tours depending on what you want to do from Classical Rome, Introduction to Rome, Rome on your own, Panoramic Rome, Beautiful Bracciano, Essence of Rome, Roam around Rome, Taste of Tuscania, Glories of the Gladiators, Exclusive Italian Cooking and so on - so there is something for everyone. For those who have done it all before there is a shuttle bus to the town and from there you can wonder around and do your own thing. Plenty of shops and cafes to keep you busy!
I had a busy day on board keeping all my reports and business up to date and coming to the end of a Grand Voyage you cannot afford to leave something until tomorrow as you never know what comes in! However by 4.00pm I made a run for it and quickly got changed and hopped on the bus and had a wonder around town and then ended up in my favourite little cafe by the sea with a nice Italian Coffee and a glass of iced water and called my family back home on my mobile phone. It made a nice break in the day. You may recall I was here on board Arcadia last November and went to Rome - you can see the pictures on my blog......one day I want to do the 'Taste of Tuscania' tour as everyone raves about it. I managed to take a few photographs which give you an idea of what Civi is like.

Graham and company have been out touring today so I am sure we will have some more photographs and tales to share with you soon. There were at least four other ships in port with us today - mainly Italian Passengers on their Easter holidays. This was a sombre day for Italy, not least it was Good Friday but with the State Funeral taking place north of Rome for the victims of the recent Earthquake. It is hard to comprehend it all.

We have two sea days now on the way to Lisbon. The Galley team are busy building their Easter display in the Atrium Foyer as I speak so I hope to show you this on the blog soon - watch out for any stray bunnies!!!

Best wishes,
James.
The darkest hour is before the dawn.

Good day to you James, and all on Arcadia.

Lovely pictures, my wife was in Rome for her 50th last year she went on a cruise out of Barcelona, and was in Rome on her birthday, she has great memories and pictures of her day there she said it was a lovely city to visit.

It was nice to see the quaint little church, i reckon the architecture of Europe is something to behold, nowhere else im my opinion has beautiful buildings like you find in the UK and other parts in Europe.

They talk about old buildings here in Australia, but compared to Europe here is just 5 minutes old.

Enjoy your two days at sea.

Dear James,

I didn't see you in Rome!! I waited and waited and visited all of the grand pianos I could think of but nothing.......

Italy was very sombre yesterday and the pictures on TV were very sad indeed. The events of the last few days have been covered almost constantly on Italian TV but the UK press have also been reporting it as well. Everyone here in Italy "volunteers" for something so a lot of our friends have gone to help.

Tuscany was also beautiful and sunny so you must do that tour one day....or go to Forte Dei Marmi!! Either way, come and see us - you are most welcome.

I hope the next few days bring good weather but I am not so sure....remember...take smaller steps on the dance floor when dancing during a Force 6+!!!!

With our love, Louise & Tony. xxx
