That's Cruising Life with Esther Rantzen

A beautiful Formal Evening on Deck with the perfect sun set in the background - it does not get much better than this! Esther and James flying the flag for P&O Cruises.

Good Day Everyone,

One of the great pleasures of my job is that you just never know who will pop in for morning coffee - but that's life I guess! What a great pleasure to meet Esther Rantzen on board Arcadia.

Esther was our Celebrity after Dinner Speaker recently and was travelling with her sister Priscilla who lives in Melbourne Australia. I remember watching 'That's Life' on TV, which really was one of the first big consumer affair programmes on TV. I have always been a big fan of Esther's and it was a delight to have Esther sail with us on our Inaugural Grand Voyage.

Come on James - get the Coffee ordered!

From L to R - Steve, Esther, Orla and Connie.

Our passengers just love having Celebrities on board - as do I! Esther was really impressed with Arcadia and enjoyed her time with us. Esther was particularity interested in the Kitchens and Stores so I arranged for Connie our Hotel Stores Manager and Orla our Assistant Hotel Stores Manager to give Esther a run down on our provisions. Executive Chef Trevor talked about the Galley Brigade. Esther is a very well travelled Lady and has lots of fascinating stories to tell.

Esther is one of Britain's best loved television personalities and it is easy to see why. Esther's talks were very well attended and enjoyed by all in The Palladium Theatre.

My right hand Lady - Helen Skoins - Senior Purser - Passenger Services Manager with her parents - Shelia and Mark. Always a joy to have family on board - mine never travel on Arcadia as we are for the over 18 years old only.......one day!

Best wishes to Esther and Priscilla, I hope all is well in Melbourne, Australia. Hurry back to Arcadia - we miss you...........

All for now,
James.

'Friends bring humour into our lives - that's what keeps us going' - that's life!

I bet being on Arcadia is very different from being in the Australian jungle on I'm a Celebrity!

I see Princess are arranging Ultimate Tours now that involve visiting the Engine Room, Bridge, Backstage, Funnel, Printshop, Laundry etc 3 hours for $150. I wonder will P&O follow suit? I'd love to do something like that - the Engine Room fascinates me.

I hope Japan goes well.

To everyone on Arcadia,

I was wondering James....How much deeper would the oceans be without sponges....???

Great to hear about all of the celebs' on board. It must be strange for them though with everyone saying "no, it can't be, oh yes it is" & having to smile every day for their public - just like you do James!
Better to be able to blend into the background. I like being a "nobody" - remember "nobody is perfect" - therefore I am perfect (well nearly)!!

Have heard from some friends on board who are busy sorting out their woolies ready for the next few days. The sights to be seen will more than make up for the cooler temperaturs and one week from today you will all be back into that lovely warm sunshine. The same cannot be said for the UK or the rest of Europe. It is snowing & dropping to below freezing point tonight!

The interest rates are falling (& so will we be if the Bank of England looses its nerve any more!

On that depressing note, I will go and get on with getting in those logs for the fire and other supplies ready for the big freeze! Oh how I wish I was on Arcadia...

With love from Louise (&Tony). xxx

Hi James

Breakfast time again!

Have enjoyed reading your latest couple of instalments.

I should think Esther's talks were very interesting. I really took to her in the jungle!

I see the tan's coming on well ;-)

DD sent me a couple of pictures of their stop in Vietnam. She was an escort on a tour. Next stop for them is Bangkok! I assume they don't go into Bangkok direct? They must dock outside and get coaches in. Bit like Port Said for Cairo!!!!!??

Breaking News....

Fred Olsen cruise ship Balmoral is attacked by pirates this morning off the horn of Africa in the Gulf of Aden. The captain ordered all passengers below decks!

"STAND BY TO REPEL BOARDERS"

Where's the RN...where indeed?

Anonymous, I hope Oriana has the same naval assistance that Arcadia got! I'm sure the likes of Arcadia and Oriana are too big for the pirates to successfully board, but you just would like a bit of back up wouldn't you? Mind you as has been posted elsewhere, the pirates wouldn't be able to stand all the moaning P & O passengers, they'd be begging to get back off anyway ;-)

Good afternoon to all on Arcadia,

Just seen the weather forecast for today in Nagasaki, top of 13c, certainly a change from the weather you have been having. Have you got the cold weather uniforms on for the next couple of days? Or are you still in whites.

Enjoy Japan from a sunny Perth expecting a top of 33c.
