Marti Webb - what the Dickens??

Posing for a photograph over the 'original' ARCADIA brass ship's bell -
Gerald Dickens, Marti Webb and James.

Hello!
Take that look off your face - I can see through your smile..( from the song) .............!!
No not Hello Magazine, but just a few celebrity pictures that I have been meaning to post for a while and just never got round to doing it.

It is always a great pleasure to have Marti Webb sail with us - not only for her command performances but also for her good company and friendship. Marti has plenty of stories to tell and she enjoys working on board Arcadia. Marti was on board from Sydney to Hong Kong - so where ever you are today Marti - HELLO from all your friends on board ARCADIA.

Tell me on a Sunday please! This was the very famous song which was written specially for Marti, of course when you think of Marti you always think of her fantastic performances in Evita.
Don't cry for me Argentina...............I have never been to Buenos Aires however Marti tells me it is a must and to visit the Eva Peron museum and also her tomb - one day when I get a posting to South America. They also tell me the restaurants down there are great and the steaks are to die for!!! Perhaps you have been and you will know? Montevideo??

I was very pleased to meet Gerald Dickens who is the Great Great Grandson of the great author - late Charles Dickens himself.......... Gerald is an expert on all the great works of Charles Dickens and is a top performer on stage. Our passengers certainly enjoyed his talks.

To please Louise and Tony - who are always asking where Mrs Fleckney's husband is - well here is a photo of Brain and Alison at a recent party. They are having a great time with us Grand Voyagers.

Mrs Mitchell (to my right!) asked me to post this photo and dedicate it to her daughter Annaliase who is a fan of my blog.......and is wondering where all the passengers are? Also in the picture is Staff Captain Kevin Oprey.

The Arcadian Rhodes Galley Brigade.
From L to R - Andrew, Deepak, Sachin, Gary, Matthew, Shiv, Subshanker and Prabhu.

No celebrity edition would be complete without Gary Rhodes himself! Gray travelled with us recently from Adelaide to Sydney and as always he had a great welcome on board from everyone. Gary was very happy with our Arcadian Rhodes Restaurant on Deck 2 which was his first Restaurant at Sea. Being on a Grand Voyage of three months in length, under the leadership of our Executive Chef Trevor Connolly we have introduced additional menus to avoid ' menu fatigue' for our regulars, and at the same time offer more variety and choice than ever before. My coffee table reading at the moment includes Gary's book 365 - which is most inspirational - if you have not got this one then I suggest you go to the book shop and treat yourself. If you are like me I read loads of cookery books but then end up making my own recipes. However it is from the cookery books that I get the ideas. When on leave it is a great joy to get into the kitchen and do some cooking as on board we never have to cook a meal - one of the many joys of working at sea............the other great joy of course is getting the opportunity to meet so many interesting people be they celebrities or otherwise.

That's it for now, need to go and do some piano practising for tomorrow, always something to do!

Bye,
James.

Thank you so much James for posting the photos of Marti Webb. I had been wondering if she was still with you. I think I must be her greatest fan although I know there are many. I am so envious that you have met her, obviously a few times. I keep hoping one day! Don't suppose you know what she might be doing in the near future?
I do enjoy reading your blogs and feel I have been to the places myself after reading them. I am learning so much geography following Arcadia! Hope to travel with you sometime soon.
Best regards
Joan

Hi James,

Thank you so much for sharing all of your wonderful pictures with us -we are particularly pleased to see Mr Fleckney!! We were quite worried about him!!
We are back in the UK but of course we will be keeping up with the blog as regularly as we can. Cambodia, Vietnam & Barnaby all look wonderful & we still miss our time on Arcadia which seems so long ago now although we have only been back just under 6 weeks!
The ships photographers are fantastic and we have some great memories recorded for us.
You guys take care until your next update.
once again - such a relief to see Brian...send our love to them in The Portofino Suite!

Love from Louise & Tony. xxx

You've had some rather good entertainment on this grand voyage. I'd love to hear more about Charles Dickens. Let's hope Gerald is on one of my cruises one day. I'll make the time to go to his talks.

I'm loving Barnaby bear too! What a lucky bear to be on a grand voyage!!!!!

Keep up the good work James. I've caught up now with all the entries that have been posted since I went away ;-)

I've missed the last couple of entries having been in South Wales visiting with my daughter who is in hospital.

Lovely to catch up with your travels - I trust Raffles was up to standard? Can't wait to try it for myself.

By the way, Monte Video is one of my very favourite places on earth and Buenos Aires is certainly an amazing city - I can't comment on the steaks as i'm veggie!

Hi James! Well here we are back home after leaving wonderful Arcadia (reluctantly) in Singapore. We just had the best of times on our Singapore to Singapore section (where did those six weeks go!). As I told you personally while still on board we found Arcadia to be just superb, such a happy, relaxed atmosphere. Missing you all already. We'll just have to keep reading your blog and wishing we were still on board. Regards to you and all your great staff and to Gary and the entertainment staff too. Missing my quoits!

Dear James, Many thanks for all your information and wonderful photographs. My parents are currently on ship, sailing with you and my Mum (the lady with the sextant!) cannot take a photo to save her life (although she has probably still taken loads anyway) but at least I have been able to view lots via your Blog! Regards
