All at Sea

Greetings All,

What a day - never a moment and with an hour forward on the clock at midday the time just disappeared. We had a 'hearing' at 1300 hours with some of my staff which turned out to be a 'Storm in a Sauce boat' however you have to listen to all sides of the investigation.

The day before a cruise turnaround is always mixed emotions, saying good bye to people whom you have become shipmates with and at the same time looking forward to the next port of call and all the new faces who will walk up the gangway. A lot of things always come out of the woodwork the day before turnround and they all take time to resolve and bring closure. This is the nature of the game and so it goes on............

It was a beautiful sea day with the sun shining all day across the teak decks of Arcadia, with her yacht like finish - Staff Captain Kevin keeping the decks shining. Endless fantastic suntans around and for those passengers returning to the UK tomorrow every single ray of sunshine counts! The neighbours need to know that we have been away on a winter holiday cruise - don't they??!! Accommodation were busy weighing hand baggage for passengers and sorting out those who wished to leave baggage on board for us to take back to Southampton. The Chocoholics Buffet and the Galley Walk through attracts as much attention as ever. The Admin Team under Mario's direction were beavering away sorting passports. This was after the Singapore Immigration Officers, who are travelling with us, had stamped them and then the Admin Team were up by the Crow's Nest distributing these passports to our passengers.

It will be a change of beat for me tomorrow as I loose Caroline, Carl and Dan ( Kaye Geebe) from my team, and they are replaced by Helen, Steve and David. This is the thing about working at sea you have to remain very flexible at all times and adjust quickly to the changes. This is also what keeps life interesting as 'change is the essence of life it's self'.

I do hope the weather condition have improved in the UK and that you are not all snowed in. Don't forget in these days of bad news and downward trends to recommend this blog to your friends and family - I need to keep the ratings up!!!

What ever you are up to or where ever you may be - enjoy and have a great weekend. After Singapore we have five lovely sea days to look forward to before arriving in our first port of call in Australia - Freemantle - for Perth.

All good wishes,
James.

'Waltzing Matilda. Waltzing Matilda - you'll come a waltzing Matilda with me...........'

Hi James - recently found your blog - it's great! Just getting used to this blogging lark and didn't realise I could leave a comment so I sent you an email earlier! My mother, Liz, is on Aurora at the moment, due in Singapore next week - she shared a great 'worldie' a few years ago with you so she will be very interested to see your blog when she gets home! Keep blogging - have you discovered 'Twitter' yet?! Regards Carolyn

Oh, but I have indeed passed on your blog to friends in Oz. In particular the McGowan's whom we met with you for the very first time aboard Aurora in September 2001 to New York - remember?

How can we all forget it! Steve Burgoine was Captain with Keith Dowdes, Staff Captain as I recall.

We haven't seen the McGowan's since who now live in Sydney but are hopeful that they might join us on The Arc in Hong Kong on the 12/03 for the voyage home.

Great blog - keep 'em coming - we all love to live vicariously when we are not cruising P&O!

Oh how I envy you all - we have got blizzard conditions here and a further 4-6" on snowfall for the fourth night running!

Enjoy your sea day before the lovely Singapore and friends Peter and Alan boarding for Sydney.

Breakfast time again James. Oh I love my ritual! However it's day 4 of heavy snow and today it's even worse! My Xmas cruise on Aurora which got back on the 11th Jan seems like it was months ago now!

Good job I've got your blog to keep me going! And strangely enough I don't the PCB's (post cruise blues). I think that's because I feel I'm on the worldie with you.

It's amazing how you make good friends with other members of staff, only to be separated at the end of each contract and then new friends arrive for their "stint"! It must be very difficult for you all. I know when my daughter left Oriana for her 6 week break at the end of November her close colleague and friend got really upset when we left to go down the gangplank. DD is back on Oriana, but her friend is now off to Ventura. I hope they get to work together again soon.

Good luck with your turnaround today. I hope all those joining today in Singapore have managed to get out of the UK! The local airport here is shut again!

Talking of chocoholics - I go every cruise (except when I was on ventura - they don't have it). All I want is one chocolate ring doughnut. They are soooooo good! Urrrmmmm much nicer than bran flakes!!!!!!!

Safe travels to you guys and looking forward to your next report.

Much enjoy your blog. We were on Arcadia over Xmas/New Year and became good friends with Derek and Ellie Richardson who are still on board with you---please kindly pass on our salaams to them from a very wintery Scotland. We wish we couild join you in your next port of call Singapore where we were based for 12 years many moons ago. Do you still have generator problems or is that a state secret ??? --it caused us to miss out on Vigo--poor show!!
