View from the Bridge

View from our Bridge at 1400 hours today.

Good Day Everyone,

Thank you for your comments yesterday - much appreciated and always good to hear from you.
We enjoyed a very calm night and it was reassuring to be gently rocked to sleep last night knowing that we were on our way to Palma. Everyone is settling in well in high spirits. Everyone is preparing for this evening's glamorous Commodore's Welcome on Board Reception. I had a busy morning with meetings, but still managed to see a lot of people who wanted to let me know they were on board as I went to and fro in the Ship's Atrium. After lunch we went for a walk around the open decks and public areas ending up on the Bridge to take a view of the sea!

Meet our First Officer and Navigator - Alex Davies - he is the man who keeps us on track and makes sure that our course is set and that our speeds get us to the port on time.

Alex is supported on his watch today by Scott Farrand who is one of our Third Officers.

There is a glass deck port and starboard on the Bridge wings and it is fascinating to stand on these and see study the sea below. Obviously these are designed to assist with bringing the vessel alongside in port.

Q - Which foot is mine - answer will be in tomorrow's blog!

Although overcast today it is warmer and the sun is trying to break through the clouds. Passengers are eagerly looking forward to sunshine and warmer climes ahead in the Mediterranean.

I am looking forward to the Commodore's Reception this evening when all our Officers will be out on 'parade' to write welcome on the mat.

Enjoy your day wherever it may take you.

Best wishes,
James.

I am glad to see that you have got away. When we left the ship from the Christmas cruise, it was certainly not the clean tidy ship that you appear to be on. I trust the smell of sewage has gone along with all the waste water lying in the carpets.

Your foot is the one on the right?

Oh dear, sewage doesn't sound (or should that be "smell") too good. What was all that about? The weather here is ghastly. Glad you are seeing the sun.
We look forward to seeing those lovely people in your photos in Singapore.

We can only bring 20kg on the plane so there wont be so much luggage to load on board when we get on.

Have a lovely party tonight.

regards. Jay

Hello James

The first time we met was nearly 20 years ago, when my mum worked with you on Canberra. How times have changed - most notably she has a mobile and I can call at virtually anytime - no waiting for satellites and passengers to clear the lines!!

She is in Cabin A156 and is looking forward to a fantastic trip. Love the blog and will wait for your updates. Hoping you get lots of sunshine in days ahead.

Personally don't think this is the correct platform for complaints or scarmongoring future passengers. The ship looks amazing James, and thank you for the pictures.

Well said Marina,
Was quite amazed that a person could use such a brilliant blog to whinge!

Yes thank you! Isn't this indeed a great blog. We all obviously share a mutual interest (passion in some cases) of cruising and it's great to be able to share what's going on onboard. I know it can't always be perfect (what is?) but how lucky are we to even be in a position to cruise. I miss ship life a lot (happily married and settled now) but cruise runs through me like a stick of rock! I think it gets into your blood, so I am loving this blog! Regards to all, Marina

It was a shame to leave the ship on 5th January after our fantastic wedding on board on Christmas Day, even with the problems that occurred.. Please pass on huge thanks to Daniel Thorpe, our Wedding co-ordinator and sorry not to have met you James, or Ian whilst we were on board.
