Buddhist Temple BuddhaWelcome to Penang, the Pearl of the Orient as it was once known. Malaysia won its independence in 1957 and it is refreshing to see that many of the old Colonial buildings are still in good repair and in fact many are now under restoration. Penang’s capital is Georgetown named after King George III but the town is now unmistakably Chinese.
Arcadia’s passengers enjoyed a varied mix of tours which included visits to see the Buddhist Temple complete with its huge standing Buddha. Whilst here we were able to see monks blessing a young family. One of the most original tours is the Trishaw ride during which passengers can relive this old mode of travel whilst seeing marvellous sights such as the Khoo Kongsi Temple that dates from 1906.
Whilst on a tour of the island our passengers were enchanted by the wonderful Butterfly Farm and here they can see some of the most colourful butterflies anywhere in the world.
A warm and colourful welcome for our passengers and crew. This makes you feel very special indeed!

I'd love a ride in a rickshaw so hope that will be available next year.
Enjoy KL.

How cruel you are James...talking about warm sunshine! It's pouring with rain here in Cheshire on a very grey January morning. Hard to believe that anywhere is warm just now.
Seriously though, thank you for the pictures and running commentary on the Grand Voyage. I am completely hooked on this blog!
Hi James
Yes I can echo Hazel's comments, fancy talking about heat and sunshine :-) They are talking about snow here early next week! :-(
I too am hooked on this blog. One of the first things I look at whilst eating my breakfast!
