The Doorman of the Taj Hotel welcomes us to the City of Mumbai.

Good Day Everyone,

Happy Australia Day and Happy Chinese New Year! This is to be my year - the Year of the Ox! I am invited to dinner in The Orchid Restaurant this evening and I have to wear something Red!

We are now on our third day at sea and third of the way across the Bay of Bengal. This is the sea that separates India from Thailand. The outside temperature is 27.5 / 81 degrees. Visibility is very good. Seas are calm.

A Coffee Bar!

The Local Traffic - you feel the same excitement as if you were on the Dodge'm Cars!

Lots of action on the Quayside.

Paul, Chris and Marion outside the Restaurant.

The Mumbai Cruise Terminal.

City Centre Taxi Rank

Marion negotiates the fare!

Even though I started work early and finished late - I managed a 'run ashore' for a local lunch and sightseeing makes it all worth while. 25 years since I last visited Mumbai. (formerly Bombay)

The Local harbour area adjacent to the ship.

Passengers and crew line the rails as Arcadia prepares to depart Mumbai.

The Road out and the port boundary wall.

Always like to have helicopter on standby. This is an Indian Aircraft Carrier and is an ex RN one which was called the Vikkrant.

Always activity on the dock.

The unique Gangway probably used by 1000's of P&O Cruises passengers over the years on their passage to India.

Dhobi Ghat - the street laundry. I suspect this is the largest above ground laundries in the world with a personal door to door service.

Jain Temple Elephant.

The Jain religion who believe in not killing anything at all - from a spider to a goat - and will eat nothing that grows under the ground!

The Prince of Wales Museum - classic British architecture from the days of Raj.

The World Famous Taj Hotel. This old part is still being worked on following the terrorist attack. However the new Taj Tower to the right of the old Hotel is now fully operational. Some of our passengers who left at Mumbai were staying there.
I do hope you enjoy these photographs. Mumbia is somewhere very special, it is heaving with people, rich and poor, but they all seem so happy! Like proper Indian Food the City is hot and spicy, vibrant and so much to look at and absorb. It is like no where else in the world, it is truly unique.
Have a great week, wherever it may take you!
James

Hi James,
Thankyou for the "Happy Australia Day" wishes, started out wet at 6am,and then dry and sunny with around 34 degrees c,very humid but nothing like a river of sweat hey, but a great day, aussie flags every where, cars, buses, kids, boats, dogs and houses, and the smell of snags on the barbies was amazing.
All in all Australia Day in Queensland this year was ,as always very enjoyable.

Just lovin' the photos of our favourite cruise ship on her Grand Voyage, especially as my parents are on board and going all the way round. Please pass on my thanks to the medical centre staff who have been looking after my Mum who has been rather poorly. She says they are all brilliant, certainly far better than the NHS!
Keep the warm weather photos coming, we need cheering up as it's still freezing here.

Cheers James

Wow James, what a latest addition to your blog. The photos are fab! Wow, I'm loving the taxi's! I've heard a lot about Mumbai, but have never been there. Having read your latest instalment and seen your photos, I want to see it for myself.

James, were you born in a year of the Ox? I was! Only know that thanks to some paperwork handed out at a gemstone talk recently on our Xmas cruise on Aurora. Otherwise I'd have been none the wiser!

I'm glad everyone had a lovely day in Mumbai and you are all back onboard safe and sound.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Thankyou for the fabulous photos, it gives you a real insight to the city of Mumbai. I would love to visit their one day. already looking at P&O cruises that visit there next year on the grand voyages. How lucky you are to have a job like yours.
Keepup the good work. Are you on the Arcadia in November when we will be joining her to go out to the Caribbean. I hope so as we would love to meet you.

Regards

Hi James

I read your blog everyday and thoroughly enjoying it the photos of Mumbai are great. We were fortunate enough to spend the day there a few years ago when we left Aurora RWC after a working trip we stayed at the Oberio Towers another beautiful place. I would love to have a week there and that wouldn't be long enough.

Keep the photos coming James.

Hello James and all from Sydney Australia.

Just wanted to drop a line to let you know I am enjoying your blog and look at it each day.

My wife and I (and two friends) will be joining the Arcadia in Adelaide 16th Feb and getting off in Sydney and we are all very excited.

If it is heat you are after, you sure are going to get it.
Adelaide and Melbourne have experienced their worst heatwave on record this week with average temps at 45degrees celcius.

It has been predicted that February will be much the same.

Might want to crank up the Air Con and put the beer on freezing hahaha.

Really looking forward to get onboard the Arcadia.
Cya on 16/02/09.

cheers
